Weeknotes #14

This week was #MuseTech2022, Andy’s first webinar, and many more Digital Culture Network conversations across the country.

Museums+Tech 2022

I had to give up my CultureGeek ticket due to the train strikes (which didn’t happen in the end), but got my conference fix by attending the Museum Computer Group’s Museums+Tech 2022: Turning it off and on again event virtually today.

I couldn’t hear Kati Price’s keynote due to a technical issue, hoping to catch up on the recording as it looked good. Kati shared some additional links on Twitter:

It was difficult to hear at times due to the wobbly audio, but there were some great talks through the day. Rebecca Odell’s session on Hackney Council’s cyber attack was particularly petrifying and insightful.

To wrap up Georgina Brooke (One Further), Mike Keating (Artfund) and Sarah Briggs (Museums Association) talked through a research study looking to find out how museums can; measure the social impact of their digital work, identify, understand and diversify their audiences online, and monetise digital effectively.

It highlighted the common themes and pain points facing cultural organisations, and had suggestions for things which can be done collaboratively to overcome them. The Q+A at the end was great.

Thoughts and prayers for Sarah!

Finding the best supplier for your website project

On Wednesday I buddied Andy Leitch, our Website Tech Champion, on his webinar all about how to select the right agency, designer or developer for your next website project. It was his first time delivering a webinar ever and he did a cracking job. You can watch the recording here:

I particularly liked the budget graph, outlining the type of supplier you should work with depending on the budget you have:

Conversations this week

The week started with an introductory chat with Secoura Grim, the new Digital Marketing Officer at Contact Theatre. We talked about tracking the right metrics and what tools are suitable to capture and visualise thing you need to know.

On Tuesday I had a morning with Jonny from Blast Theory, converting Looker Studio reports to Google Analytics 4 data. In the afternoon I helped Andrew Hardie (Marketing and Digital Coordinator) set up and configure Civic Cookie Control for the Northern Print website.

On Wednesday I had quick call with Alex Lawton (PR & Marketing Coordinator) at The Midi Music Company to talk about website objectives. Alex is working with Tech Champions Ollie and Hansel to make the most of the free $10,000 monthly Google Ad Grant available to non-profit organisations.

In the afternoon I talked through the wonders of Looker Studio with Rosie Crocker (Marketing Assistant) and Jasmine Barker (Head of Marketing and Communications) at Bath Festivals. I’m really looking forward to see what they come up with.

Thursday I caught up with Aidan Woodburn (Deputy Director) at Spike Island who I’m supporting through the Bloomberg Digital Accelerator Programme. It’s now down to two potential Customer Relationship Management (CRM) providers, with the final demos in the next two weeks.

In the afternoon I spoke to Foteini Galanopoulou (General Manager) at Vital Xposure. Foteini is looking to get the most out of Google Analytics to inform future activity.

Last week I spoke to Katie Lear (Marketing Officer) at Opera North about running a Google Analytics 4 workshop for the team in December. In preparation for the workshop I caught up with Daoud Al-Janabi (Web and Digital Officer) this afternoon about the current analytics set up, reports and stakeholders. I originally spoke to Daoud back in April and it’s great to see the progress he’s made in report building and analysis for the team.

And finally…

I came across The Spark Arts for Children team page when doing some outreach research. It’s absolutely brilliant 🤣.

I posted it on LinkedIn and Andrew from Northern Print shared this great one from Mother:
