Weeknotes #45

This week I delivered a webinar on custom reporting and configuration in Google Analytics 4 and joined the launch of Northern Stories - a collaboration between Arts Council England, Digital Culture Network and Google Arts & Culture.

Advanced configuration and custom reporting in Google Analytics 4

After getting GA4 set up and running on your website, the next stage is to configure it for your objectives and customise your reports. This webinar goes through the reporting functionality and the customisation options available.

The rehearsal highlighted an issue - I’d crammed in way too much content in so we’ve split it out into another webinar on the 12 July - How to enhance Google Analytics 4 data with Google Tag Manager.

Even then, it’s an hour of content and 30 minutes of Q&A. In retrospect this should have been (at least) three different webinars!

The resources, presentation slides and additional Q&A responses will be available on the Digital Culture Network website once we’ve got the captions attached.

I’ve used Google Analytics for a number of years, and have attended various sessions during this time. Yesterday’s DCN webinar was by far the most useful, clear and helpful session I’ve ever joined. James was brilliant, presenting both the more basic and in-depth areas with great clarity and enthusiasm. It’s really going to help with our approach towards GA4. Thank you!

We’re a week away from the death of Universal Analytics and I can’t wait for all the silly messages and alerts from Google to disappear. I’m going on holiday to celebrate 😎.

Northern Stories launch

Northern Stories was a pilot project developed and supported by Arts Council England's Digital Culture Network (DCN) and Google Arts & Culture.

On Thursday I joined my Arts Council England colleagues and the Google Arts & Culture team to meet the participating organisations of Northern Stories, along with representatives form other northern cultural orgs.

The purpose of the event was to celebrate the partnership, hear more about the projects and have a round table discussion about digital skills and capacity and how the partnership can help.

How it worked

Four organisations were invited to take part in a 12-week programme of bespoke training and 1-2-1 mentorship about digital content, social media & digital storytelling skills, led by the DCN. Participants were granted £8k each to support involvement in the programme, including hiring an intern to take part in the programme with them. As part of the project, each organisation worked with their intern to collate and curate their work into a series of stories on Google Arts & Culture.

Dean Shaw (Content Tech Champion) and Haydn Corrodus (former Social Media Tech Champion) worked closely with the interns to help upskill and develop new content.

The resulting collection – ‘Northern Stories’ - includes new and archive materials from LeftCoast, TIN Arts, ARC and National Glass Centre.

One person missing from the launch was Rose Marfleet (Project Manager) as she was annual leave. Rose has been instrumental in this whole project an very much the driving force behind it’s success.

Well done Rose!
