Weeknotes #38

Itโ€™s a short one this week thanks to the Monday bank holiday being off on Friday for a campervan trip to Wrexham (and escape the coronation ๐Ÿ‘‘). That said, it was a busy week and bookings are now open for my next webinar on Google Analytics 4 - advanced configuration and custom reporting.

Advanced configuration and custom reporting in Google Analytics 4

In this webinar on 21 June 2023 Iโ€™ll be showing you how to configure Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to track custom metrics and build your own reports.

I will cover:

  • The advanced configuration options in GA4, such as setting up custom dimensions and metrics, creating audiences, and integrating with third-party systems

  • How to integrate GA4 with other Google products, such as Google Ads and Google Search Console, to gain a more comprehensive understanding of website performance

  • How to build custom reports to analyse user behaviour, optimise marketing campaigns and track your key objectives

In the registration form you can outline the key questions you have about GA4 to inform the content of the webinar, it really helps!

It may help with Googleโ€™s confusing GA4 rollout and โ€œsunsettingโ€ of Universal Analytics which is perfectly summed up in this video:

Conversations this week

I spent a lot of Tuesday preparing for my Get ready for Google Analytics 4 webinar next week. If you work in an Accredited / Working Towards Accreditation museum in England, come along!

On Wednesday I spoke to Georgie Craft (Company and Production Manager) at Natural Theatre Company. Georgie has begun building out reports in Looker Studio since our last chat so we went through the functionality together.

In the afternoon I met with Edwina McEachran (Marketing Manager) and Sheena Balkwill (Communications Manager) at Julie's Bicycle. We went through the new GA4 setup, using the exploration reports and how to set up custom Events to track objectives.

On Thursday I spoke to Daniel Alicandro (Head of Digital Engagement) at Southbank Centre. Daniel is setting up the Meta Conversions API with a server-side Google Tag Manager container to improve accuracy and performance of Facebook and Instagram ads. The Meta/Facebook Pixel which many organisations use is impacted by ad blockers and lost a lot of itโ€™s accuracy when Apple released iOS 14. Using the Conversions API gets around this by loading things through a server (instead of in your browser) and piggy-backs on the data stream from Google Analytics 4. Itโ€™s all very cool from a technical aspect.

In the afternoon I caught up with Hayley Salter (Marketing and Communications Coordinator) at Highly Sprung Performance about GA4 and data visualisation.

Last chat of the week was with Rosie Thompson (Mareting Coordinator) at Site Gallery (I really want to visit here!). Rosie is the whole marketing department and wears many hats so we talked about using a marketing funnel to focus on only a few metrics and structure reporting that way. The slides from my Why are you measuring that? webinar were useful here.

Iโ€™m off to Wrexham, I might bump into Ryan Reynolds.
